For the second time during her pregnancy, Malika had to make an emergency visit to the hospital.
“You’re really making me earn this ‘mommy’ title, huh?” she said, looking down and patting her stomach.
The doctor explained to Malika that the pregnancy hormones were the culprit. The increased heart rate and blood supply and relaxed blood vessels led to her passing out in front of her off-again ex while he was in the midst of the sordid retelling of his lapse in judgment.
“You’re lucky you weren’t alone and he was there,” the nurse practitioner said to Malika, pointing towards Channing. “You could have been by yourself and hit your head or worse.”
She gritted her teeth and gave him a half smile so brief, it looked like a face spasm.
“Yeah, I’m glad I was there, too,” Channing agreed, looking at the woman carrying his child. The one he was trying to make a life with and ruined in under five minutes.
