After two full weeks of applying to jobs and doing her best to avoid social media, Malika had a successful phone interview with a digital branding agency that had a portfolio of luxury fashion clients. She was getting dressed for her first in-person meeting with the human resources director and the CEO she would be assisting. It was a Wednesday and she was entering her tenth week. Thankful that she was already thick and her belly, more or less, looked the same, she still avoided any waist-defining pieces.
It was hot for early June, but Malika wore a black blazer over her loose dress for added insurance. With all of her other shoes beginning to feel tight, she opted for seasonally awkward ankle boots. She had taken out her box braids the weekend before and wore her natural hair in a twist-out that Channing always said made her look like an angel because of the halo effect.
